Infanticide: Passing the Rubicon?

  • Infanticide (def): The act of killing an infant.
  • Rubicon (def): A line that when crossed indicates a point of no return.

Infanticide, protected now under the cover term ‘abortion’ is nothing new in the United States. Many states offer unlimited abortions.

What is new and different is the fact that a radical narrative is being normalized  within  mainstream society in a very deceptive manner so that the acceptance and tolerance curve has been dramatically shifted to the left, even among believers. What this means is that killing living and viable babies after their birth is such an affront on Christians that many will  and have readily accepted abortion alternative time frames such as the heartbeat bill, which have been introduced or passed in  state legislatures over the past few years and  allows for abortion up to about 6 weeks or when a heartbeat can be detected.

Can the Governor of Mississippi stand before God and declare that he followed the will of the Lord? Will the Lord call him a good and faithful servant? These are not just questions for the brethren who play a direct role in passing these bills, but for each Christian who remains on the sideline spiritually.

We will all answer to the good Lord one day. I will say in this instance, ‘I fought for the lives of innocent babies, even under threat of legal action.” — Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant (R)

But what does scripture have to say about these ever changing and arbitrary developmental milestones that act as abortion greenlights? At conception, fertilization,  6 weeks, 18 weeks, 20 weeks, 24 weeks,  at viability outside the womb, before the umbilical cord is cut…. before the first breath, before they suckle, before they  walk, before they talk?  Is there a time during or after a pregnancy where scripture gives the OK  to electively kill a baby?

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.Psalm 139:13

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations. — Jeremiah 1:5

“When men strive together and hit a pregnant woman, so that her children come out, but there is no harm, the one who hit her shall surely be fined, as the woman’s husband shall impose on him, and he shall pay as the judges determine. But if there is harm, then you shall pay life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.Exodus 21: 22-25

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. — Psalm 127:3

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me. — Psalm 51:5

There are six things the Lord hates,  seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes,  a lying tongue,  hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies,  and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.  — Proverbs 6:16-19

Keep far from a false charge, and do not kill the innocent and righteous, for I will not acquit the wicked. — Exodus 23:7

Not but a very short while ago, the argument about  abortion was centered around when life begins. At actual conception, fertilization, or some time later? Now that argument has been  tossed into the victory bin as another win for satan while he continues to lead the lemmings  to eternal damnation for sins of commission as well as sins of omission.

While Roe vs. Wade — a Federal law that allows for abortion until fetal viability (about the beginning of the third trimester) — is the law of the land — for now,  Christians never before accepted elective abortion (even at 6 weeks) for pregnant women: that is,  killing an innocent human life living and growing in their nurturing womb, defined by science unequivocally as beginning at fertilization.

If not for the blood of Christ.

Therefore, let us not feel victorious or  righteous about these so called  heartbeat laws.

Instead, all of us who are Christians ought to repent for falling far short as a society and a nation by allowing our representatives in Congress to continue to make that which is so very sinful and abhorrent in the eyes of our Creator — lawful and even celebrated in our land.

We need to continue  to pray for the doctors who perform abortions — that those doctors  might be quickened in heart and spirit  to finally see the innocent blood that they shed. And  pray for many healthcare professionals, researchers and support staff who make a living in the abortion industry and all who  are involved in the fetal parts-for-profit industry and larger $y$tem which helps drive abortion policy.

And pray for the many women who do not trust in and believe in a living God who deeply loves both them and their  babies — however their babies may have been conceived; women who do not believe in a loving Creator that will protect them  and provide for their every need.  And pray for the men who defile women in fornication or adultery;  or who allow the jezebel spirit in the home that overtakes their  wives,  urging them onward to destroy their own children.  ALL Men, as Jesus perfectly modeled on earth are to be protectors of ALL women, children, the elderly, the infirm, the innocent, the dependent and the defenseless.

And Pray and Weep for the millions upon millions upon millions of innocent and defenseless babies that have been killed at the hands of men, women, and society as a whole.

Has socially sanctioned infanticide passed the rubicon?

Only our Father  knows the very moment unbelievers will pass His rubicon of long-suffering, grace and mercy.

Until then, Christians must continue to testify and witness the Gospel of Christ Jesus to lost souls, as the Holy Spirit directs.

And stand up to and against unrighteousness — even wickedness.

In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.
