“Watch therefore: for you know not what
hour your Lord does come.”
Many of the brethren who have been called to watch (watchmen), presumably on our behalf, have also started to calculate and predict rapture dates. This personally does not bother me, and for some people, has even helped certain Brothers/Sisters-in-Christ keep their minds off the world and focused on Jesus, as rapture dates come and go. Still, there are aspects to bible typologies and patterns, event dates and calendar calculations leading to rapture date predictions, that go beyond watching and warning, and into areas that may not be scriptural.
My soul waits for the Lord More than the watchmen for the morning; Indeed, more than the watchmen for the morning. — Psalm 130:6
The watchmen in the bible overwhelmingly reported on what they saw. Their reports were descriptive, not predictive.
For thus the Lord says to me, “Go, station the lookout, let him report what he sees. —Isaiah 21:6
Now the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel and he saw the company of Jehu as he came, and said, “I see a company.” And Joram said, “Take a horseman and send him to meet them and let him say, ‘Is it peace?'” —2 Kings 9:17
Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices, They shout joyfully together; For they will see with their own eyes When the LORD restores Zion. –Isaiah 52:8
“Son of man, I have appointed you a watchman to the house of Israel; whenever you hear a word from My mouth, warn them from Me. –Ezekiel 3:17
If a watchman declares ‘thus saith the Lord,’ and it does not come to pass on the day foretold, the watchman did not hear from the LORD.
You may ask in your heart, “How can we recognize a message that the LORD has not spoken?” When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD and the message does not come to pass or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken presumptuously. —Deuteronomy 18:21-22
Yet – NEVER fear to warn, as directed by the LORD:
If I say to the wicked man, ‘You will surely die,’ but you do not warn him or speak out to warn him from his wicked way to save his life, that wicked man will die in his iniquity, and I will hold you responsible for his blood. –Ezekiel 3:18
But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand. –Ezekiel 33:6
In other words, we must all pray for wisdom and discernment, so that we can properly watch and warn. Because in the last days, there will be lying signs and wonders. If possible, even the elect will be deceived.
For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. –Matthew 24:24
Thus, it is vitally important that we study eschatology (the study of end times) and that we KNOW what to expect, so that we are not deceived and can warn others as well. Read aloud the final book of the bible – The Revelation of Jesus Christ – and hear it so that you will be blessed.
Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near. –Revelation 1:3
Read Matthew 24, Read the book of Daniel, the book of Ezekiel, Jeremiah, Zechariah, and all of the major and minor prophets.
We all ought to:
Diligently watch and wait on the LORD.
Share the Gospel.
Comfort each other — the brethren.
Never judge other believers-in-Christ — respect and honor progressive sanctification and the LORD’s justice.
Never accuse or accurse each other. Pray for the body of Christ.
Step away from the world and separate yourself from it.
Pray for each other, the innocent, and the defenseless.
Repent against all that is evil; maintain a repentant heart.
Be obedient to the Will and Word of God.
When you do receive a message from the Lord to share, then share it.
Warn as led by the Spirit.
STRENGTHEN your FAITH in the atoning blood of Jesus Christ that has cleansed us of all our sins and FAITH in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ who delivered us from the penalty of sin — which is death, so that we may have everlasting LIFE and be forever reconciled to our Creator: The Father of ALL. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Hold fast to Jesus Christ — Never Let Go!
