The Idolatry of America
The Acuity flag [arguable the largest in the world] located in Sheboygan, WI: before and after a recent storm. Promptly, a new flag was raised.
The purpose of America was always to Glorify God and God alone. It was through the Constitution and the Bill of Rights that Godly men could fulfil the great commission in the land and abroad, and through continued love and obedience to God, in the name of Jesus Christ, America and its citizenry, would be blessed.
Freedom, liberty, justice, prosperity, and abundance in the land was the blessed effect, patterned after our reconciliation to God, through Christ.
Matthew 6:33 “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
We however, no different than the Israelites, very soon thereafter, completely separated God from the blessings He bestowed upon us and we, as all men have done since the beginning of time, began to worship the creation, which are the ideals of America, and not the Creator.
God has been long-suffering towards America, that every man should repent of his idol worship of God’s creation, that is America.
But Americans have not. Instead we worship the flag, patriotism, monuments to men, politic parties and the men that espouse America’s ideals; and we now lament our loss of freedoms, lack of justice, lawlessness, and increasing poverty and perversity of Christian morality. We lament the loss of our way of life.
Prayers to the Father are not repentance from our own idol worship back to glorifying the Creator of All, but that God protect us, strengthen us, and have mercy on us from the enemies that are trying to destroy our idol. We simply do not acknowledge our personal sin of idolatry.
America is God’s creation and was a blessing upon a faithful flock and He alone is responsible for allowing its destruction. Until Americans, particularly American believers come to recognize and repent not only of our insidious idolatry of America, but also our idolatry of all that we hold dear, and our pride of life, we can expect God’s destruction of all that is idolatrous in our land.
“For what is idolatry if not this: to worship the gifts in place of the Giver himself?” John Calvin.
“We make a god out of whatever we find most joy in. So, find your joy in God and be done with all idolatry.” John Piper.
Ezekiel 14:6 “Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.”
Ezekiel 20:8 “But they rebelled against me, and would not hearken unto me: they did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt: then I said, I will pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.”
John-1 5:21 “Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.”
Matthew 6:21-23 “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!”
John 2:16-17 “For everything in the world–the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life–comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.”
Judges 10:14 “Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your tribulation.”
Psalm 106:19-20 “They made a calf in Horeb and worshiped a molten image. Thus they exchanged their glory For the image of an ox that eats grass.”
Revelation 9:20 “The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, so as not to worship demons, and the idols of gold and of silver and of brass and of stone and of wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk…”
Psalm 96:5 “For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.”
Isaiah 2:17-22 “And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day. And the idols he shall utterly abolish. And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth. In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats; To go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth. Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of?”
